Description

In Detail

The Arbortech Contour Sander is solidly made, ingeniously designed and precision engineered. It uses an innovative new design resulting in a true random orbit action that is only evident when the disc is applied to the work. It gives an excellent finish free of sanding marks and won't leave the friction burns that a spinning pad is prone to do. The sander is designed to fit a 100 or 115mm portable angle grinder but will not fit the Arbortech Mini-Grinder. The Contour Sander is remarkably effective, rapidly abrading material to give a very good finish, even with the coarsest grades. Owing to the very flexible outer rim of the sanding disk, where most of the sanding takes place, it does an excellent job of sanding curved surfaces. In addition, the unique design means that vibration from the grinder is minimal. Includes: Random Sander Attachment,1 x backing pad, sanding disks 5 x 80g, 5 x 120g, 5 x 180g, 5 x 240g, 5 x 320g, 5 x 400g, 5 x 600g.

great piece of kit

works very well big improvement on using a drill. if you want to use felt discs put a hole in it and screw to arbour. Had good results using red oxide paper backed abrasive as well, even if the paper dont last too long

Good Stuff

Mine came with a black soft rubber head rather than the pink foam shown in the pic which is good as i thought the foam would have a short life span, also came with a spare screw and plastic cap for use with home made disks. Have only used the supplied disks so far but i am thinking any flexible cloth backed disk would work fine. maybe a shot of spray mount on a home made disk would be sufficient but if not you can always do the method outlined in the before mentioned you tube vid, cutting a small x in the centre if the disk and mounting it with the screw cap. overall very happy.. great bit of kit

Addition to above review

To add to what I wrote above, Arbortech have a short video on YouTube detailing how you can make your own sanding disks from cloth backed paper that require no glue. All very simple, inexpensive and to be honest, changes my opinion of the sander. Given you can make your own disks like this I think it's the best mini sander on the market.

Nice idea but can't use hook & loop

On the face of things these are a wonderful development, way better than the normal drill attachments we all use. Until, that is, you realise they're NOT hook and loop. You've got to buy Arbortech's sanding attachments at £9 a pack for 25 of the same grit or 35 of an assortment (2"). I can go on eBay and buy a box of 100 3M 115mm pads for £11. I'm almost tempted to buy a spare head and glue some Velcro to it, just to see if it works.
