As promised, the second half of my review. Using a bench grinder, Jet water wheel, several grades of wet & dry, numerous dowels and formers to gain the right profile and lots of honing compund I have finally got a set of polished chisels. Apart from the V tools - which were beyond my skill level - all perform well. So, if you have many hours available to get them sharp, these are a real bargain.

Steven Mizen has described them quite accurately. Extremely bad purchase.

These are aimed at novices to woodcarving and are priced accordingly. Quality is therefore extremely low – but you do get twelve for the price of one good quality chisel. Description states ‘will need honing prior to use’ – this is a major understatement. Each chisel requires substantial grinding/reshaping before they will be ready for sharpening/honing. Walls are uneven and too thick. Bevels are ground to around a completely inappropriate 40 degrees and are nowhere near the right shape. Similar to the other 12 piece set on offer from Axminster. On a positive note, I really like the handles!
I’m still working on grinding them into a useable product – so will get back at a later date to provide a review of them in use.
I’d recommend novices save a lot of time and money by buying 3 or 4 decent chisels instead – these will only dishearten someone new to the craft.

These chisels are of a good enough value for the money. Metal is not the hardest, but acceptable. Some blades are not perfect, as there are marks. Handles are good as well. Overall, I am happy with the purchase. Another good value for money from Axminster, in my opinion.
