Description

In Detail

The 1500 is suitable for professional use, a home workshop or hobby woodworkers. The bench top is kiln-dried beech wood, chosen for its toughness and resilience. Its laminated construction ensures the top is stable and rigid and will remain flat throughout its working life. A lacquered finish both above and below gives the top maximum protection. The bench top is 30mm thick with a 90mm deep apron and includes 2 vices. The vices have 360mm wide jaws opening to a maximum of 130mm. They feature a strong central screw with steel guide bars on each side. The bench top includes 2 double rows of bench dog holes, one from each vice. Used with the dog holes in the vice, they allow you to hold workpieces with a wide variation in size or shape. The bench includes 4 bench dogs. Dog holes in the legs allow you to clamp items vertically. The under frame is solid beech. A full length shelf in the base offers storage for larger tools or materials. The bench comes flat packed with full instructions for assembly.

Axminster 1500 workbench

Bought this as a Christmas gift for me. Took advantage of a sale offer, but even at full price I believe the price represents good value for money. It's sturdy, strong and well made. I feel that one design fault could be easily rectified - the one piece feet cause this otherwise sturdy bench to rock unless the floor is dead flat. I overcame this by making four, ply feet and attaching to all four corners.

Great value, quick delivery

I bought this when it was on a pre xmas offer when I added the shipping to France it worked great value. The shipping was very quick, I ordered it on a Wednesday and I had dropped off in the following Monday, (it would have been quicker, but French couriers don't work at the weekend)
It went together in no time at all and appears to be solid. The quality seems to very good for the money. I think you'd struggle to make your own for less!

Excellent value

Originally intended to buy the 1700 bench but it was temporarily out of stock when the new 1500 came up in the 'black Friday' promotion. As this seems to be identical to the 1700 but slightly shorter I opted to save better than £100 and ordered it. Delivery was very efficient and it arrived when promised. Although the packaging showed some signs of a hard journey the contents were unmarked.
Assembly was straight forward and everything fitted as described. Once in place in my garage I feel the shorter option was probably the correct choice. Only down point was the sachet of glue supplied which was very watery and pretty ineffective. Tip: use your own wood glue to fix the vice handle ends.
Overall delighted with the bench which is already earning its keep. Wish I had treated myself to one years ago.
