In Detail

Evolution 1 Year Guarantee

This positive pressure powered respirator eliminates the drawbacks encountered with standard negative pressure face masks. The motor unit blows filtered air down over your face at a rate of 160L/min. Fatigue caused by having to suck through a filter is no longer a problem; breathing is normal and comfortable. The air exiting around the sides and bottom of the mask is at slightly higher pressure than that outside, so forms a most effective seal. Beards are not a problem. If you wear glasses, these will not fog or mist up as you breathe out. With the motor and filters mounted on the peak of the bump cap and the battery at the rear, the balance of the APF 10 Evolution unit is excellent. Combined with the low overall weight (680g), it is very comfortable. The Li-Ion batteries give you a run time of 8 hours on a full charge. The filters are easy to inspect and replace. The bump cap’s outer cover is removable for washing. The unit provides respiratory protection to EN12941:1998 + A2:2008 TH1P. The bump cap gives head protection to EN812. The clear visor gives you a wide field of vision along with impact protection to EN.166.B.1. Supplied with an 8-hour battery, plus charger, two filters, a flow-rate meter and complete instructions all within a strong storage box. You only get one pair of lungs.

Respiratory protective equipment (RPE) should not be used as the only means of control as it should complement other control measures such as a dust extraction system.

Each RPE type and class is categorised by an assigned protection factor (APF). The APF is a number rating that indicates how much protection that RPE is capable of providing. For example, RPE with an APF of 10 will reduce the wearer’s exposure by at least a factor of 10 if used properly, or, to put it another way, the wearer will only breathe in one-tenth or less of the amount of substance present in the air.

Great product

I have had one of these for about a year now and really like it. It is very light and doesn't want to dictate your head movements. I use this predominantly for woodturning but have found other times it has proved useful. Only downside is the replacement or additional batteries are expensive. But can you put a price on your health?

Update on earlier review.

It's now a month almost since receiving the respirator. I have used it a lot as Christmas is round the corner.
Apart from being unable to flip up the visor, I have no adverse comments. Light weight, comfortable and the motor noise is easily ignored.
I run the vac over the prefilter and give the visor a wipe before hanging it up for the next use. As the battery lasts 8 hours I plug it in overnight a couple of times a week and so far been fine. I do recommend the peel off visor pack though as a spinning lathe combined with sanding sealer or friction polish can throw droplets a good distance. They are somewhat difficult to remove.

Good Respirator and Excellent Service.

I received this a couple of days ago, and though very pleased with the respirator, which is light, comfortable and easy to wear, I encountered a problem.
The motor kept cutting out which I traced to a less than perfect fit in the battery. A light finger touch was enough to break the circuit. I contacted Axminster yesterday afternoon an Kevin in Customer Service suggested and arranged for a replacement battery, which arrived this afternoon as a first step. I have used this for half an hour with no problem at all. In fact I could not replicate my problems. A far better fit and excellent service. Well done Axminster. I feel that this is a good product which I will enjoy using. The only negative I can see is that the face visor is fixed and can not be flipped up. It is a light, comfortable Respirator so I do not feel that I will miss this ability in the long term.

Excellent

this product is a must for those who are working in a dusty environment. I turn wooden objects and many of the wood dusts are toxic. this product prevents inhalation and is like working in an air conditioned office. Highly recommended.

Effective but noisy

As Fab Guitars said in his review the unit is noisy, something I hadn't even considered when purchasing but with good ear muffs it does become a low pitched hum. I'm not sure I can put up with it for long - may have to buy some radio headphones. Other than that seems well made, fits well and the positive air pressure from the fans really works - breathing is easy. I got the stick on visor protectors as well - very easy to fit. Whole thing comes in a sealable plastic tub to keep the dust out when not using it - tub is big enough to hold ear defenders and spares too. First battery charge took a few hours.
