Axminster Hobby Series AWVSL1000 Woodturning Lathe
Four major features set this lathe apart: 1. The centre height is a full 185mm giving a massive 370mm(14") maximum turning diameter over the bed and the ability to turn larger diameter bowls without the need to rotate the head. 2. The distance between centres is a very useful 1,100mm for turning longer spindles and similar items. 3. The swivelling headstock is also free to slide along the length of the bed, giving the facility to position the head in the most convenient position to suit the item being turned. The headstock can also be swivellled. 4. A larger motor to match the larger capacites. The AWVSL1000 is a powerful value-for-money machine with plenty of capacity and is now supplied with a pair of Axminster centres. Supplied with 4 prong Axminster drive centre, Axminster revolving tailstock centre, 150mm faceplate, outboard tool rest extension, 300mm tool rest and stand.
N.B. The distance between centres will vary and be dependent on the type of centres or accessories used.
Axminster Woodturning SK100 Starter Kit Chuck Package.
100mm diameter chucks, made in Axminster, are the result of more than 30 years of experience in the manufacture of woodturning chucks and accessories. This latest version uses CNC production techniques to ensure your chuck is as accurate and reliable as possible. The stainless steel chuck body including the thread is a single piece, maximising concentricity and minimising vibration during use. The chuck features our SafetyJaw accessory mounting jaws which have rounded corners and includes a chuck key. Packed into a strong plastic storage box, this starter set includes a set of dovetail jaws (size C), a matching faceplate ring and a screw chuck. The set gives you plenty of scope from mounting blanks for initial turning to final completion of another well executed project.

This is 2MT compatibleI haven't actually bought one as yet but intend to do so. My rating is more based on what I see and Axminster's customer service. I wondered, since the information offered does not mention it, if this is 2MT compatible. That's important for me because my Axminster Evolution Pen Mandrel is 2MT. The Evolution, in my opinion, is the best on the market. The fact it is 2MT was confirmed by Axminster's brilliant online help and I thought passing the information along may be useful to someone.

Great place to begin.I have been turning for about two years now and have used Coronet and Myford lathes. I have to admit that I was somewhat doubtful of this lathes ability to perform mostly due to the fact that Axminster able it as Hobby... To me this sounds like, 'flimsy and unsuitable', but I need not have worried. My first bowl was born from a 12"x7" slab of Yew which the lathe handled admirably. This was followed by two larger walnut bowls. Not once did it struggle rotating the weight of the wood but after a good wobble I firmly bolted it to the floor with some dampers under each leg. Now it really is a highly capable machine, no vibrations and all round sturdier.

Great First Time Lathe With The Chuck KitI purchased this lathe a few months ago now so have been able to turn a few projects off all varieties to put the lathe through its paces. I think this can only make a fair review, however I have never used another lathe so can give no comparison.

Superb machineI have used lathes from Myford and Record Power, and this machine is far superior to both that I have had experience of.
