In Detail

A well made cast iron, two axis compound table with two T slots of 58mm spacing along its length and a fine ground finish. The 475 x 155mm table has excellent travel in both directions and is fitted with adjustable gibs to take up the slack in the slides. Calibration of the wheels is in imperial units; one complete revolution of the wheels moves the table 0.1 in. and there are sub-divisions around each wheel which allow for more precise adjustment of the table travel. Although not a precision device, the cross table is nevertheless a useful aid for drilling patterns of holes and similar jobs and is accurate enough for most non-precision purposes. The T slots are 15mm wide at the table surface, opening out to 20mm wide by 10mm deep for the bolt head. The base is 200 x 270mm, the longer dimension being at right angles to the table. The base slots are 60mm apart, and the table travels are 280mm lengthwise and 155mm fore and aft. Height is 125mm and weight 23.5kg.

CT1

I got my CT1 table delivered this morning only to find i had the same problem as in the first post in this reviw, the LH Winding handle casting was broken and leadscrew bent,on phoning Axminster at head office and then the Nuneaton depot i took it back and had a replacement that i checked before i left, the package is very good and surrounded by plywood so i blame the courier not the seller.Everyone i spoke to at Axminster was very pleasant and helpful and this is a bonus for my old 1960's Meddings drill.
thanks :-)

Wonderful service

Winding handle casting broken and leadscrew bent when it arrived, excellent tech. support meant that a new table was delivered and the broken one collected within 24 hours. Outstanding service and support, oh, and by the way, the table is excellent value for money as well.

CT1 Compound Table

For the money I was very impressed when the table was unpacked, more so that the box contained ply packing to keep everything secure. I followed other advice here and stripped the table down. As I have the facilities, I decided to scrape the ways and improve the surface contact of the table and bearings. After blueing all the bearing surfaces everything is on the outer edges, not a bad grind for a cheap table, at least it didn't rock. 6hrs later I have about 50% contact spread over the bearing surface, not just high spots. Very happy still with my purchase and the quality of the iron castings was good where it mattered. The only thing I didn't like was the limit stops. Having them bite onto the leadscrew with grub screws is just a No-No. As the table is now pretty smooth and accurate I will add a cheap DRO to it. Overall I was very happy with what we got for the money, it has good potential for improvement at little cost. Very easy to mod with hand tools and a mini lathe.

BUY IT IF YOU ARE THINKING OF ONE

FIRST I WOULD LIKE TO SAY THAT AXMINSTER TOOL COMPANY OFFER THE BEST LONG DISTANT SERVICE TO THERE CUSTOMER I HAVE EVER USED AND THIS IS MY REASON FOR ALWAYS GOING BACK.
I bought there compound table for my pillar drill ( also purchased from them ) which realy needs alot of setting up but a poor finish ( but dont let this at all put you off ( and that I mean )) i found this to be one of the best things I have bought as an add on and now it stays there making my live so much easyer. I agree with all the good things others have said.

Larger than I thought

Absolutely fabulous value for money. With a drill press/ Pillar drill it is ideal for light milling (Hobby use) and works out half the price of buying a dedicated micro milling machine. Its larger than I thought so a better description of the overal size would be good and I had no channel clamps so ended up on another shopping trip for clamps and some heafty plywood to sit it on.
