Die Frustrations

Similar problems to the two other reviewers with the cutter in the die. Edges broke off, failed to get a reasonable cutting edge back with sharpening, so have ordered a replacement cutter. Additionally to this I had problems with the chip ejection slot blocking up so have cut back the face above the cutter at an angle, this improved matters.

The wood thread cutting system in use.

I had to wait for a new batch of the 1" wood thread cutting tools, when it was sent me, it really looked the business, and when used up to today, it cut very good male threads.
Living on an olive grove in Spain, as you might expect, the wood of preference is olive wood, once dried, this cuts nicely and has a lovely grain. Unfortunately, like the other review, today the male cutter broke, poor quality steel I suspect, it did resharpen on my oilstone and went on to cut the thread properly, but I intend to replace it as soon as possible. Having said that I cannot fault the female cutters, as they cut a very sharp and clean internal thread. Can Taiwan make decent quality steel? that is the question I've been asking myself ever since the cutter broke, will I be wasting my money if I buy another one from the same maker, as £9.23 plus postage is not cheap if the next cutter is just as poor quality.

Wood Thread Cutting Kit

The kit is great as it saves thread chasing on the lathe, however, the cutter in the die seems to be made of low quality steel, and the replacement is unavailable. If Axminster could organise a replacement cutter from Veritas or Lie Nielson, the extra cost for the item would be well worth it. It looks as id I will have to source some tool steel locally & make one myself. Other than that issue, really pleased with both Axminster & the Kit itself. hope this is helpful ... Mark.
