Doesn't fit the AT129PT Planer Thicknesser

Don't make the mistake I made.

I assumed that as I had the latest trade series model - AT129PT Planer Thicknesser - that this digital thickness display would fit. It doesn't.

It's a backward step for this machine (although I'm sure I can manage without fact, I have to;).

I spoke to Axminster who said that there's no digital display currently available for the AT129PT Planer Thicknesser. The person I spoke to says that it's clearly written on their website what machines it fits. Which it does.

Axminster won't pay for the return postage so check before you buy.

I've given the item a top rating because I think it does what it says it does....just not on the machine I've got.

Like the others say....

As with everyone instructions, you're just left to get on with it. Surely it wouldn't take much effort from Axminster to shove in a one page sheet?

Anyway, easy to fit. Unscrew the 6 screws on the machinery housing cover (I have the AH106PT, and I had to undo these to remove the unit from the pallet after delivery), reach in and put a ring spanner on the nut. Remove the bolt from the front. Repeat with the other bolt. Then from the outside attach the black rubber mount, insert the longer bolts supplied with the unit, and bolt up from the other side.

20 mins work to fit. I haven't calibrated it, but I intend to use it just to compare one reading with another after adjustment, so calibration not necessary for me.

Should be fitted as standard......

Well worth it.

Don't be put off by the fitting, yes the side panel needs to come off but to undo and fit back plate with two bolts hardly rocket science. Once fitted set up was easy using vernier calipers taking just over the hour to fit and calibrate. Very accurate and handy extra to the machine but I agree with other reviews would have been nice as a standard fit. All in all very happy.

Good bit of kit, but can be a bitch to fit if you try to cut corners.

I bought one of these to fit my recently purchased 2nd User PT106. As previously stated the Display Unit does not come with any fitting instructions and the Peter Parfitt video on youtube doesn't really fully go into fitting details. Included was the mechanical display, rubber mounting collar, a pair of allen headed bolts and an allen key (to fit the collar around the display, it doesn't fit the included bolts). I struggled much as I assume others did trying to remove the bolts which would allow the gauge to fit and in the end I decided to bite the bullet and remove the cradle locking handle and also the motor, this then allowed much better access and the fitting became very much easier.

The display works well and as it is purely mechanical does not require batteries, and the good thing now is that should it cease to function, replacing it will be a breeze as removing the handle, undoing the allen screw in its collar and gently pulling it from its rubber mounting will enable its removal and exchange if required.

I am at a loss though as to why they are not fitted as standard, seems to me like it would be much easier to fit whilst the machine was being assembled and even if it raised the cost of the machine by £30 or so it would be a good selling point rather than as an inexpensive add on, or, failing that, install the rubber mounting block as standard and then sell the display as an add on if required.

Great, easy to fit

Nearly didn't buy this because of the other reviews quoting problems fitting the item . Yes you have to take the side panel off ( 6 screws ). Once in I found it easy to reach the two bolts and I haven't got long arms. Fitted in twenty minutes. So don't be but off by the other reviews those guys must have been having a bad day. Great addition to the Axminster planner thicknesses.
