In Detail

Axminster 5 Year Guarantee

The concept and design of the Evolution SK114 chuck was born from our desire to create the best woodturning chuck possible. It features a super-slim stainless steel body incorporating newly designed longer accessory mounting jaws. These low profile jaws offer a greater contact area within the slide ways of the chuck, minimising vibration during use. The ultra-compact design keeps the work piece as close as possible to the headstock of your lathe to lessen the load on the bearings and prevent unwanted vibration during heavy stock removal. Indexing is achieved by 24 peripheral slots and 36 holes within these on the chuck back plate giving the option of 10° or 15° indexing. The Evolution is fully compatible with all accessory jaws and is the first of a new series of chucks and jaws. We are very proud of our new Axminster chuck which should give you many years of reliable service.

Good "New" fashioned British Quality

Stunning on all counts. I think Axy have addressed every little niggle regular chuck users had with this upgraded Evolution. The stainless single body eliminates rust and concentricity problems and the actual scroll chuck mechanism is a joy to use. Literally can turn with one finger. My Nova's are a lot more clunky than that and I even have a cheapie from Rutlands which is excrement compared to this beauty. You do pay a bit more but my goodness the difference is worth it! It also goes to show that we can still engineer fabulous quality precision tools in this country when we grasp the nettle!

Well Engineered Precision Chcuk

I purchased the SK114 chuck for my new AT1628VS because of its existing reputation and the fact that the jaw collection I had for my Clubman 100mm chuck were interoperable with the exception of the C type dovetails jaws which are unique for the chuck. I also purchased the long soft grip chuck key separately, which gives easy reach over large diameter projects close to the chuck. This chuck is solid, engineered with precision and is a great compliment to the AT1628VS.

Superb Chuck

I've had a Super Precision chuck for many years and this new design seemed a logical addition as all my existing jaws would fit. It is a great piece of kit, well made and finished. The safety jaws we have seen in recent years are safer than standard square edge ones but not 'safe' so I hope no one forgets the risk with larger workpieces. If it fits your lathe I can't think of a better choice.

I have one criticism, and this is a half hearted one - maybe my chuck was over enthusiastically filled with grease as higher speeds even now occasionally sees the black stuff being flung from the adjusting screw housings. I have a nice line of it on my once lovely white wall and a shirt that is no longer anything but 'workshop' wear! I don't think there is any surplus left in there now but I still check every time I switch off.

Well made Axminster!

I'm using a god old Myford ML8 for my wood turning so thanks' Axminster for making a version of the SK 114 that fits to the Myford threads.

Right out from the box, screwed to the spindle and…just…perfect!
Best congratulations from Sweden, Axminster. You've done a grate job with the SK114.
