In Detail

The HG-1 is designed to take the guesswork out of setting up routers, router tables and saw tables. It is great when needing to set up or replicate exact settings. Made with a solid cast iron base, it provides a strong, fixed point that allows adjustment of the gauge without any movement. Providing both imperial and metric scales, this gauge also has a vernier scale for increased accuracy to 0.05mm, allowing for micro adjustments to settings. Measures to a maximum height of 180mm.

As with the previous review the arm is sloppy and the scriber soft. I wanted it to do accurate measuring and marking for model engineering. I mainly deal in imperial but the gauge is in 128ths rather than thou's so very difficult to use. Had to convert all my measurements to metric and use that scale. However thew sloppiness makes for poor quality measuring. I am going to have to go for a more expensive one I think.

A bit disappointing

Mine required fettling and recalibration to read zero for zero heights when it was delivered. The upright wasn't square to the base and the vernier scale is actually quite coarse and sloppy on the scale which makes accurate measurement and setting difficult. The aluminium point is very soft and unsuitable for scribing even very soft materials. This is not on-par with the accuracy of engineering vernier calipers which is what I was hoping for and IMHO is not really suitable for anything other than measurements to within about 1mm.
