Description

In Detail

This Overhead Crown Guard is an accessory to fit the Axminster Industrial Series TSCE-12R. It offers much improved protection for the user as well as superior dust collection. Easy to fit and a great enhancement. Please note, if you have a machine purchased prior to 2013 you may have to drill four mounting holes in the chassis to fit the mounting brackets.

Its good but ......

The first thing to say about this that it is big and heavy..
I will start with the plus points on this item

The thickness of steel used is very good quality thick gauge steel, also the clear Perspex used in the crown guard is of a good quality with a very good line of vision of the blade from both the front and sides so cutting to a line is no problem at all unlike the cheaper plastic crown guards that are of a cheap coloured plastic.
From a safety aspect this is a must and has a good line of sight if you are cutting dado's as their is no need to cut the with out a guard in place, also the extraction is good and this is very easy to lift up and down on the hydraulic ram

Now this does have a few little problems that you will need to over come as when you receive this for the TSCE12R it will over hang the side of the table by 450mm as this is made for the bigger 400 version now if space is not a problem then that's great, but why buy a table saw that has a folding sliding table only to lose the space the otherside, now I cut mine down to fit the 12R and drilled new holes and welded the nuts back on which for this sort of money I should really not have to do this as in the catalogue it does show to versions one on the 12R and the other labeled to fit the 400 table with extensions, but Axminster confirm this is the only one they supply.
Now this is no fault of Axminster as they do not make this part it is made by the same company that makes the saw (Sedgewick,Delta,Grizzly also made in the same factory).

The other point to make is the poor paint quality I think it was a Friday afternoon job as It is VERY thin looks like a quick blast or they run out in the spray gun because it marks and chips very easy and it looks like no primer was used as when the paint does chip it reveals bare metal and their is no primer on the flakes, I think this lack of quality really lets the product down in this day and age I would have thought this would have been powder coated and would expect that for the money.

Really this is a good piece of kit from a safety aspect but I do feel it is over priced with the poor paint finish and having to make the modifications to fit the 12R
