Description

In Detail

The thin rip jig makes repetitive ripping of thin strips safer and easier than any other method. Made from heavy duty aluminium extrusions, the jig locks securely in any 19 x 10mm mitre gauge slot. The built-in scale helps you make fine adjustments. The ball bearing holds the stock firmly against the fence, allows smooth feeding and makes repositioning a simple operation. Also, a very handy jig for a bandsaw, allows curved work to be done easily and accurately.

Does not fit mitre slot on Dewalt/Elu 3401 Bandsaw

The issue with the mitre slot on the Dewalt machine is that the mitre slot is a t section slot and the thin rip jig is built to just drop in the slot from above, which it obviously cannot with a t section slot. The lip on the t is only 1mm wide and 1mm deep so, I suppose it would be possible to machine the bar at the base on the jig to fit in a t section slot, but as it comes in the box from Ax it does not fit. For anyone deciding to do this, there is another lip at each side of the base of the t which would need to be coped with as well! This is just to stop anyone else buying one for this (used to be very common and sold by Ax) bandsaw and expecting it to work right away.

Thin rip jig

Overall the jig is well made for the money paid, however the mitre rail although designed to expand and lock into the mitre track on the saw is not functional, on my saw at least. I have a cast iron topped table saw with a 3/4" x 3/8" mitre track. Unfortunately the jig does not lock into the mitre track of the saw as it should when the handle knob is tightened, not even close, a good deal of slop to be honest. I guess that is the price we pay in the UK for not having a standard mitre track dimension.
Once I have figured out how to resolve this issue I am sure it will prove a useful tool.
Just make sure you accurately measure the mitre track on you saw prior to purchase as the 19mm expansion bar is, in my case not close to 3/4".
Good luck

Thin Rip Jig

I must admit I have bought "useful" gadgets before that have turned out the opposite...but this is really good. Can easily and accurately cut repeat thin strips on the table saw without burning. Much safer and I have used it a lot more that I thought I wood. Need a bit of modifying to fit my saw but very easy to do.
