The jaws are robust aluminium alloy on a 20 mm x 6 mm steel bar. These die-cast jaws are capable of applying substantial pressure to the workpiece. Squeezing the handle advances the moving jaw. The spring-loaded face is slightly angled so its top touches first as the jaws close. As pressure is applied, the spring compresses to ensure even pressure distribution. The fixed jaw is reversible to convert the clamp quickly into a spreader. The jaw faces have non-marring, glue-resistant pads and the clutch operates with a simple release.

Excellent quality!Having used plastic spreader clamps in the past, I was not looking forward to the task of seperating a chair frame as the clamps usually dont work as they cant exert enough pressure. I was intrigued when I saw these alloy ones and I am so pleased with them, the rubber softeners on the faces are actually soft so they don't mark the surface, the heads are easily reversed for spreading, and there is very little effort required to apply serious pressure with these things. Everything just works smoothly and the bars don't warp either (not that I've noticed anyway) so all in all I'm very pleased with them. They work great as a standard clamp also.
