In Detail

A replacement blade for the Lie-Nielsen #4 & 5 planes, made with the same care and to the same standards as the rest of their products. All the blades are cryogenically treated A-2 Tool Steel. Note Lie-Nielsen blades are 3.2mm(1/8") thick as they prefer to use as thick a blade as possible. When up-grading a Record or Stanley plane if the blade is too thick, the Chipbreaker Screw may not be long enough to install the Chipbreaker, we have available a long cap screw. Most important the mouth opening may not be large enough to allow the blade, or a shaving, to pass so a little fettling may be necessary.

Excellent cut

I upgraded my Stanley No4 plane with this plane iron and the thicker L-N chip breaker. After a little tinkering with the frog position and a small adjustment to the mouth of the plane, I was rewarded with a plane capable of planing end grain with ease. The transformation was astonishing. Ultra fine shavings are achived with ease. Well worth the money.

Awesome Blade

If you buy any hand plane other than a top of the range Nielsen, etc, then you should scrap the blade that comes with it for one of these. Out of the box this blade is sharp enough for site work, but put a micro cutting edge on it and it makes even the most mundane hand plane sing just right. The blade come with a very finely ground primary bevel and is perfectly backed off saving time and effort. Bear in mind cheaper planes may need the mouth widening due to the extra thickness of this blade.
