Description

In Detail

Bosch Professional 3 Year Warranty (Registration Required)

This machine is intended for hammer drilling in concrete, brick and stone as well as light chiselling work. It is also suitable for drilling with the rotary-only mode in wood, metal, ceramics and plastics (using a suitable adaptor and chuck). The electronic speed control allows the drill to be used for screwdriving, again using a suitable bit adaptor or chuck. The rotating brush plate gives you equal power in both forward and reverse rotation. When chiselling, the vario-lock position on the function selector allows a choice of the most effective chisel angle, before locking the tool in hammer-only mode. The cable entry gland features a ball and socket joint to eliminate cable fatigue at this point.

Very pleased with the GBH 2-26 DRE

Bought one of these from Axminster. Have used it but only in the drilling mode, so I cannot comment on the chiselling end of things. It is very easy to use with all the functions easy to hand. Very easy to insert and remove the SDS bits. It will go through the hard stuff with a vengeance. It is a very user friendly power drill. The reverse switch is located so that it can't be switched inadvertently by mistake as on other drills. You don't have to loosen the auxiallary handle to use the depth gauge which is a good idea. The cable enters the drill like a ball and socket joint so there will be no wear in that department. There is about 4 metres of cable which is very useful as I found out today. There were no freebees with the drill, just a cleaning cloth, instructions and a very spacious case with lots of room for boxes of drill bits etc. There is a space to store long drill bits if you have them. I bought some Bosch SDS drill bits along with the drill. These came in a sturdy storage case with I have stashed inside the drill case. I also bought a chuck adaptor. This is a keyed three jaw standard chuck that fits into the SDS chuck and takes "normal" drill bits. You never know when you'll need it so it's good to have one with some wood or HSS bits in there to. There is lots of room for stuff like this in the drill case...could probably get some sandwiches in there too!
There are SDS drills on the market that cost a lot less than this one and come with "free" drill bits and other things. Well I went down that road once before and it was not a pleasant journey. So I decided on a quality product this time. I suppose some of your money that you pay goes into the R and D side of things at Bosch. Where would the SDS system be without Bosch? There is a good range of SDS drills to choose from in the Bosch range so you just need to work out what you will be most likely be using it for and purchase accordingly. If there will be a lot of chiselling involved you'd go for one of the really big high power units. As my usage will be mainly drilling into stone/concrete/masonry etc I went for this option from Axminster. Once purchased you can go online and extend your warranty for three years. Very quick and easy to do.
Really pleased with this drill and would rate it very highly.
Like I said at the start of this review, I purchased mine from Axminster. They were a joy to deal with from start to finish. Their customer service is first class and answered any queries that I had regarding this drill and other matters. The drill arrived post free and well packed. I'll definitely deal with Axminster again. Like the drill, 5 stars to Axminster.
