In Detail

Bosch Professional 3 Year Warranty (Registration Required)

This unique saw features Bosch’s 'Axial-Glide'™system, which provides the smoothest and most precise cutting action of any mitre saw on the market today. Rather than using guide bars, the GCM 12 GDL features vertical and horizontal hinged arms with sealed bearings. The arrangement guarantees a maintenance-free, super smooth and highly accurate action.
In addition, the design saves space. You do not need to allow for guide bars projecting to the rear and as the controls for setting mitre and bevel cuts are at the front of the machine; you can position the GCM 12 GDL against a wall. The saw has a large cutting capacity and wide ranges of both mitre and bevel angles. A laser projects a dual line defining each side of the kerf for precise line-up before cutting. A depth of cut limiter allows you to groove or rebate.

Power output:
230V = 2,000W
110V= 1,500W

The table has pull out material supports right and left, with stops for repeat cuts. The back fence, with a total length of 1,016mm offers maximum work support. The Axial-Glide™ system locks for transport.

In a league of its own

I've just recently purchased the GDL mitre saw for my workshop and straight out of the box it was spot on accurate. Compared to my existing saw it's smoother, controls are slicker and it is a lot heavier! Don't think I would want to use this in a mobile way, the one it's replaces (a terratec cheapo) has now assumed that duty. It's early day re the laser however at the present its working fine and again is spot on.
I dropped into the Axminster store in Warrington to purchase a saw and after trying a few out decided on the GDL as it just felt right and in my small workshop situation how it can butt up against the wall was the deciding factor. As another plus due to its unique gliding mechanism it has allowed me to align its fence next to the fence of my radial arm saw. The chap in the store was good to deal with and just loved the store (my first visit as I usually order online) I could have spent £000's
The stock blade is good so far and will continue with this until I see any deterioration in its cutting capability.

Recommended. Has some limitations for pro use, but beats all the competition hands down

I bought this saw mainly to cut 4” oak rafters and such like for timber framing, as well as general carpentry. It is a good saw. I bought the package deal with the Bosch saw trolley. There is very little choice of manufacturer when you need this capacity: mainly Makita and DeWalt. Bosch is a bit more expensive but not enough to matter for a long term purchase.

The saw with standard blade cuts extremely well.
The pull push mechanism is outstanding – easily the best on the market, and takes up much less space than competitors. Makes no difference on site but does in the workshop. Very, very smooth operation.
Laser is feeble and hard to see in daylight. Also quite fiddly to adjust.
Dust collection is woeful. The rubber / plastic rear shroud system results in a cloud of sawdust being directed back at the user when cutting through thick timbers.
Depth stop is very rudimentary, has no graduation scale and has insufficient range of adjustment.
Horizontal mitre adjustment is excellent.
Saw is easy to set up accurately. Mine arrived spot on as it happens.
Rotational mitre adjustment works well but if you want unusual angles, it is quite difficult to get the saw into the correct position, because of the sheer weight of rotating the saw head. It could do with a fine adjustment mechanism.
Blade guard is good and release / trigger mechanism is excellent.
Motor is more than sufficient for heavy duty use and not too noisy. I am using it to cut thick, seasoned oak and green oak and it is not struggling at all.

Trolley is a pain to assemble. Fits the saw well. The extension arms could do with being stronger and the plastic knobs and end fittings could be better. Worth having but not a premium product in my view, despite being sold as professional.

Overall recommended. I give it 8 out of 10 for the saw. To get 10 it would need better lateral adjustment, and a better laser. I can forgive weak dust collection as all chop/mitre saws spray dust.

Trolley should be sent pre-assembled. 6 out of 10 as I would prefer it to have better supports that are both wider and more rigid.

Axminster delivered next day. This was very fast - too fast actually as I had specifically asked for it the next day rather than being left on my driveway with no-one there! Still, no one stole it so no harm was done.

So smooth!

After owning a comparable makita and using larger dewalt chop saws, this one is in a completely different league!
The quality of the saw in all aspects is exceptional and everything is strong and solid yet silky smooth to operate.
Then there is the hinge system replacing the usual rail arrangement, the Bosch glide system really does do what it says on the tin, it's super smooth and quite impressive. The motor is more than capable of doing whatever you need.
If you are in the market for a saw of this size, this one will exceed anything else out there.
The machine itself is quite a lump but having said that, I don't mind that at all. If it's on Bosch's own trolley / stand it's easy to move and very stable.

GCM axial glide

Just got the saw, perfect straight out of the box first impressions it's a fantastic saw so smooth and plenty of power even in hard oak, don't think much of the dust extraction though they claim 80 percent recovery but I thinks that's very optimistic hard pushed to recover 50 per cent I would think, any way thanks Axminster, spot on service as always .

Brought this saw a couple of months ago it's nothing short of brilliant. Axminster looks after you. Go there and buy, you won't find a better service anywhere.
