In Detail

The flagship of the Bosch range, the GST 160 CE with body grip is intended for heavy use where quality and accuracy are required. Precise and powerful, the motor has optimised electronics for a constant cutting speed (overload protected); these ensure the right speed is selected whatever the material you are cutting. The tool has 4-stage pendulum action and is fitted with a variable trigger. All important is the double roller blade guide system that ensures minimum oscillations and bending of the saw blade for a very true and precise cut. The heavy duty footplate gives a smooth glide and has tool-free angle change. Overall the machine is very compact with a robust metal gearbox and low vibration. Other features include single handed quick change blade, LED light and dust blower. For the best visibility of the cutline, the extraction port can be rotated or removed if not required. Body grip handle.

Supplied with dust extraction set, 3 jigsaw blades, splinter guard and L-Boxx storage case.

Love it!

Fantastisk jigsaw

Bad buy

Very disappointed with this jigsaw. Bought it in August 2015 and a waste of money. Alan Holtham on You Tube gave me a false impression that this machine would
be perfect for my work. Can't even give it away!

Good tool, but with a couple of flaws

The good
Personally I find this saw is accurate and copes well with all that I throw at it. I prefer a body grip jig saw and have relatively large hands and find this saw comfortable to work with, generally good ergonomics. The quick blade change mechanism works very well and the splinter guard does a top job, these last a lot longer than I had expected from the fact they give you five with the saw.

The bad
The saw does run very hot and at first smells of burning 'something', there is no sign of any heat damage anywhere but I wonder how the hot running will effect the life of the tool. The blower function is fairly pathetic to the point you can't really tell if it is turned on or not.
The dust extraction attachment is a bit unwieldy and flimsy.

Bosch GST 160

I bought the barrel grip jig saws a few months ago, I have always used Bosch Jig saws because I believe that they are the best for the money but sadly they have gone badly wrong , it runs incredibly hot, it smells of burning even when used on light work and not for long periods either!! it does terrible cuts, the blade guide doesn't work at all and now the light wont turn off.
It is a rubbish machine !!!!
It is so bad that if Bosch don't fix it I will have to buy another brand!! Give it a wide birth!!!

Blade wander, Bosch uninterest

I have always been a fan of Bosch, but unfortunately, the performance of this jigsaw just did not live up to expectation... Very bad blade wander (using high quality Bosch blades/correct speed etc) on very gentle curves in soft wood 1.5 inches thick, ruined work on a spiral staircase commission, back to using my old compass plane & spoke shave to re true the salvageable work!
Axminster have been very good regarding returning a new jigsaw, ,which, sadly was no improvement, at all. In fairness Bosch did repair the first one (new gearbox cover & sole plate).
Both these were barrel grip versions, it could be a batch issue, so I am going to give Bosch a third try, this time a bow grip (which should be a different batch number)
I'm a professional furniture maker/carpenter/boat repairer.
I will report back,I do hope Bosch take a close & serious look at this, as my 30 year old Bosch jigsaw was a marvel, but like us all has seen better days!As I mentioned I returned the the tool & received another new tool, a little better, but still wanders & the blower is pretty ineffective , which is disappointing, not sure what to do now ,as I need this jigsaw every day, I don't want to consider the competition ( which starts the F letter!) as I have always been a great advocate of Bosch .The motor & build are very good , a good base plate, however.
