I was worried ordering this after reading the reviews but I needed a guide bush for a great router that I think everyone agrees with.. It was exactly what I needed and the shoulder is about 13mm but the base plate that locks the bush (nice and square) between it and the router plate is 8mm at least. Leaving you about 5mm or less. Meaning small jigs if necessary. I believe the two previous guys who wasn't pleased and got it out of square are using the wrong base attachment.. Explains why it would be to long and not square. Hope this helps, only issue is over priced. Yes it does what you want/need but it's only a little guide bush, should be a few quid.

Gah, these DON'T fit the square base on the small Bosch palm router. I ended up cutting it to the correct depth for that base, then tried to attach it and realised it didn't mount, tried to use the circular base to find that it was now too short! All my fault, of course, but don't make the same mistake I did.

I agree with Thomas McCann. however, when you mount the bushes in the route base (they fit on top), the protrusion downwards from the base is just under 9mm. I use 9mm mdf for my templates, so it works fine. You would have to trim it down if you want to use 6mm for templates, that is true. I would have given it 5 stars, except they are expensive for a steel bush, but if you have the bought the router, you're hooked.

These guide rings are very big.The shoulder is 13.5mm deep which dictates rather heavy template material be used.
Trend guide rings are much shallower allowing the use of 6mm mdf as a template.
Ill just have to hack 7.5mm off them. Awkward job.
