Good Product

This is a replacement for my B&D Workmate, and after looking at the Workmates I quickly realised they are rubbish and would not stand up to the years of abuse like my old one had. The first table came with a corroded lead screw and was promptly replaced. I found it very useful in my big DIY projects and it does what it says on the box. I have not had stability issues with it but I guess it depends what you are doing. What I do miss when compared with the B&D is the ability to vary the height of the work surface which I found indispensible when working on large items. It easily folds and packs away well.

Lacks solid lock for legs

I had a workmate for 20 years and had renovated many houses with it (It was stolen by Scrap metal poachers :-() This bit of kit although Bosch lacks stability. The legs when in use extend and lock into place with 2 metal strip springs with a square (slightly rounded) button but after good use the spring loses it's power and then the rounded button which isn't then fully extended, stops holding the bench up. Bosch really need to re-design this with a positive pin lock for the legs & a catch to keep bench shut when folded up. I have a lot of Bosch kit and this is the first bit of kit I wish I hadn't bought.

Not as stable as I hoped...but folds flat

I bought one of these to, I had hoped, give me more stability on site or outside when hand-planing, etc.
1) Sadly it is not as stable as a good Workmate in the lateral (side-to-side) plane, where it is not braced. And this is the direction one would plane along, with a piece of wood clamped between jaws (see picture of person sanding).
2) It's a lot better in the medial (front to back) plane/direction, where there is bracing.
3) It does fold flat, though, and so takes up less space in the car than a Workmate
4) Good surface area of work top....and stable in most senses
Swings and roundabouts?
