In Detail

This finish will give protection against both heat and water. It can be used alone or, for better results, over a cellulose based sanding sealer. Several thin coats provide a superior finish. Quick drying due to cellulose base. The melamine dries to a gloss finish and can then be matted using 0000 Steel Wool, or brought to a gloss by applying wax with a pad of 0000 Steel Wool and buffing to a shine. If brushes are used clean in cellulose thinners..

Crystal clear

Brushes on well, gives a clear and hard wearing surface that can be smoothed for a high shine wax final finish, Renaissance Wax in particular works well for that.

This product is stunningly good - but do the basics!

If you want a finish that is hard and durable, really quick to apply and capable of stunning results in a fine translucent matt, satin or high gloss finish look no further. You are going to need to do a little work but this is more than made up for in the time it takes to achieve a really professional finish. For example, a really good super flat high gloss polyurethane varnish takes several days to achieve because of drying times (not to mention the worry of contaminants landing on your work as it dries). The same is achieved with this stuff in hours - it literally dries as you work. Here is my method:

Your gonna need some thinner.
1. Sand your work and vac up. Apply spirit wood stain if you must and allow to dry for half an hour.
2.Apply Chestnut melamine sanding sealer with brush roller or spray. Divert your attention for ten minutes - making a cup of tea is good.
3. Rub down lightly with 0000 steel wool.
4. Apply a coat of thinned (20 -30%) melamine lacquer - now drink your tea, it has cooled down enough.
5. Apply another. Then, apply another. And, again. By the time you have got to the end of your coffee table, cabinet or whatever, the beginning is probably dry and you can start over - yes its quick. The trick is not to worry how it looks and feels (brush marks etc), just keep going avoiding runs. Keep it thin.

Now talk to your wife, husband, partner for five minutes 'cos you know they deserve some attention in your life and, finally:

6. Rub down lightly with 0000 steel wool for matt (the work - not your wife!); breath and polish further with a cloth for a nice soft satin, or apply burnishing cream, car wax, Brasso or similar polish for a gloss. Brilliant!. Job done one afternoon.

Enjoy!

Great Product

I bought this product after searching for ages for something suitable to use as a wood finished over water colour paints. I'd been finding it really hard to find something suitable so emailed Chestnut and got a really detailed response. Great product. Use over a coat of the sanding sealer and it'll turn out really nice and shiny. Fast drying to.

Melamine Lacquer

Two or three brushed coats applied over a single coat of cellulose sander sealer give an excellent finish to new pieces of furniture. The finish is hard and heat resistant.
