In Detail

Sharpening or honing removes metal from the bevel, whereas stropping burnishes and polishes. This double sided strop measures 200 x 65mm, suitable for the majority of chisels and plane irons. A bar of special honing compound is included. The design allows its use with the DMT DuoSharp base. A version is available including the base. The strop only requires a minimal amount of compound. Only charge one side of the strop with compound. Work the blade on the charged side first then finish on the uncharged side. Stropping ensures the point where bevel and back meet is as smooth as possible, resulting in the sharpest of edges.

Connell double sided leather strop

Nice leather I use Veritas honing compound on it and it puts a mirror finish on my irons and chisels with little effort

Perfect for purpose

I've found this to be perfect for stropping plane blades, chisels, knives, even razors. My one complaint would be that it's mounted to a very thin bit of... MDF? I can't tell exactly what it is, but it's green and has fibres in it. Anyway, it'll flex without full support underneath it, so do consider something to hold it with. Stropping compound provided is a high surface finish, but not the quickest, so get the surfaces of the blade up to at least 1200 grit, and you should be fine thereafter.

Lovely bit of kit!

Just received this strop today, excellent service from Axminster and great asset for stropping my blades on my prized knife collection. Good quality leather and handy as is double sided.
