In Detail

N.B. Each kit is supplied as the components only and does not include the material / blank.

Exclusively available only from Axminster, the Empress pen kits feature some exquisite detailing and offer terrific value when compared with similar pens available. A Swarovski crystal is inset into the clip and attractive Asian style 14kt gold plated bands encircle each end and the centre of the pens. Rollerball and fountain pen kit versions are available individually or as a matched pair which offers a great saving. The fountain pen features a gold and rhodium plated nib of high quality. When using a mandrel to make these pens, use bushing set 951820. Drill sizes required are 11/32" and 37/64". Approximate blank size required 20 x 125mm. Download instructions available.

Lovely looking pens BUT......

I bought 3 of these fountain pen kits and sold two of them so far but the problem is that unless you buy refills from Axminster all other International type cartridges I've so far found are slightly too big and if not extremely careful when you remove the nib unit the body pulls the cartridge away and it remains stuck in the body. This is a real shame as the kit along with carefully selected woods makes a fantastic retro 1920's looking pen!
I tried drilling out the body, but by the time the hole is big enough there is nothing left to support the pen...... a real shame.

Suitable box

Regarding pen boxes for a pair, you will find it very difficult to obtain a double pen box, I have been turning pens for over 10 years and have only come across a good quality double pen box once. The only place I can suggest is a guy on eBay and I think he is called the pen box

Suitable case ??

Beware !! I bought 10 of these pens. Both rollerball and fountain, hoping to put them together as a set. Having made the pens, and they ARE lovely, I now find that Axminster have no suitable pen cases and can only offer me their velvet drawstring bags. They said they don't even stock a suitable box or case for a single pen, never mind a set. To their credit, they did send me a velvet double case to try , but this has proved to be totally useless for the purpose. I believe they should stop selling these pens until they can offer a suitable case / box for both single and sets of Empress pens. Can anyone point me to a source of suitable cases / boxes ?? I need them for Christmas. Feature ratings apply only to the pens.

Nicely finished but you have to buy a special filler.

This is a lovely pen when finished but to make cartidges fit you have to drill the hole out as you cannot (I cannot) find one that fits. There are fillers available that fit but surely it should be designed as a working solution.
