Festool OF 1010

This is a nice balanced and powerful router for it's size.
Dust extraction is excellent as I've come to expect with other Festool power tools and is an important consideration for me.
This router has coped with all tasks I have thrown at it including routing 19mm wide housings with ease.
I do however feel that for the price Festool should include the 30mm guide bush and the required centering cone.
And talking of the centering cone which is absolutely necessary for centering the guide bush, well to be honest it is a bit of a faff and that seems a backward step from Festool.
Also it isn't always easy to see the cutter when lining it up against the work piece but this is something I've learned to live with.

expensive mistake

needed a small router to replace my old makita, as 90% of my tools are festool i purchased the router ,door hanging was the main use ,big mistake the position of the handle means that i cant rout out the hinges on the frame without setting up the fence on the opposite side, also feel the view of the cutter is poor ,not impressed!!!!! new makita bought!!!!

solid little router but evil marketing

Great to use but why is there no collar and it has the rail adapter thing in the box something I didnt need and just gets in the way in the box ,no micro adjustment on fence also the fence bars are a tad short with the normal fence so must be less with the micro adjustment bit on.
The new dust extraction ring smallens the amount of flat surface area on the base so more unstable if on narrow face edge ends as not level with the base of you use the infill adapter without the extractor piece.
I've been using routers in a trade workshop inviroment for 35 years and earlier festool models were better , simpler with less add on bits and faf gadget pieces
As ever Festool has left me hanging with bits from one incomplete system and a non complete system out of the box, still it does a job well as a simple router.

I've used many routers over my 35odd years in carpentry, and this is without doubt the worst of the the bunch. At first, it seems to cover all the bases, lightweight, powerful and with all the features you would expect. I was chuffed to bits when I bought it. The worst aspect for me is the template ring. I use a lot of jigs, (mainly for hanging doors). As with most routers, the ring fixes to the baseplate with two screws but it doesn't self centre. I only found this out after ages wondering what was wrong with my jigs.... You have to use a centring cone (which is 8mm only). It is not supplied with the tool and Festool charge for this. I only found this out after the tool was sent back to them for the baseplate to be checked for alignment. After an strong discussion they agreed to supply the centring cone FOC. The frustration I get when swopping from one job to the other, having to change collects from 6mm to 8mm and back again means I often get the 1/2" out and use that instead.
The depth stop is so slack on its stops it has to be checked continuously as it keeps getting moved accidentally by the lead, I've tried to clamp it down but can't.
For a tool priced at this part of the market it is terrible.
It's got to the point were I never use it because it's so frustrating and it can't be trusted. Probably the worst thing you can say about a tool.
Buy anything but this.

Quality piece of kit

This router is a joy to use, it is very light which makes plunging effortless. The switch can be locked, saving on aching fingers. The one hand system and clear view of the router bit makes for accurate locating when plunging. I use the Numatic stepped hose reducer which fits over the oval dust outlet port attached to a Henry vacuum for dust extraction. I think the fine depth adjustment screw system could be improved on, but overall a very good machine
