Nigh perfect

I bought one of these because I was intrigued by the idea of a corded drill with a brushless motor. It makes a worthwhile difference, as this is the smallest, lightest mains drill I have ever owned, yet it still has plenty of power. It also stops immediately, just like a cordless drill.

The design and build quality are excellent. I particularly like the keyless chuck, which can be opened and closed with one hand (the Centrotec chuck is neat too, but I don't use it as it would require spending a fortune buying expensive new bits). The cable is of a practical length, and made of nicely flexible rubber instead of the more common cheap PVC.

A few things could be better, like the gear switch, which is rather stiff, and it feels a little too top heavy to stand safely on its base. Also the case it comes in, though brilliant in many ways, is not space-efficient - there is a lot of empty space inside that could have been compartmentalized, and the top tray is not large enough to hold many of the more useful bits that I like to keep handy.

Despite the high price, I think the quality actually makes this decent value. If you want the best mains drill money can buy, this is for you.

The Percussion Drill you've always wanted

I am a great Festool fan, The quality, design, and reliability of these tools is well known. But my only gripe was they didn't produce a mains percussion drill. Well, we can't say that any longer. this drill is superb. comfortable weight, feels right in the hand, plenty of power, range of gears for different jobs, variable speeds from stop to really quick, plus festools quick change chucks and finally, a descent length power cable. It leaves the rest way behind. Great! Festool.
