A grade 'A' workshop granite plate with inspection grade accuracy and offering greater wear resistance than cast iron equivalents. Granite plates have good temperature stability, are resistant to corrosion, are nonmagnetic and distortion free and make an excellent surface for accurate marking out. The size of the plate is 400 x 635 x 100mm thick and the weight is 80kg. Flatness is 0.002mm. Due to the nature and weight of these plates, delivery is via Axminster transport only.

Excellent, usefulI build guitars and have used this to flatten chisel and plane iron backs, flatten plane soles (even improved my lie-nielsens) make straight edges and sanding beams from inexpensive sections of aluminium, even to true up necks surfaces- it's paid it's cost easily compared to buying expensive items of unknown and sometimes dubious accuracy.

Would buy againI have bought two of these now, you can't find a granite surface plate this size, this cheap anywhere else. I dropped one star in quality because I disagree with Axminster's product description. The surface plates are supplied with accuracy reports and on the first plate I bought the maximum error was 0.0021mm, the second plate I bought however has a maximum error of 0.0036mm, which is a bit larger than the 0.002mm flatness in the description. Either way it doesn't make much difference, they both meet grade 00 specification or grade A specification, what is generally known as inspection grade, but it might be something to be aware of. If you need something that accurate you need laboratory grade (grade AA), this surface plate is more than good enough for all workshop and inspection uses.

Great Value But!You will have to make up your own rubber mounting feet and fit them to the correct places on the bottom of the plate.
