This is a medium capacity drum sander which will finish boards up to 810mm wide (in two passes) by 75mm thick. The extruded aluminium drum is precision machined and balanced for minimum vibration. Used with care the machine can achieve a thickness tolerance of 0.25mm across the full width of the drum and the combination of variable speed conveyor belt drive and a fine abrasive can result in a really first class finish, even with the most difficult of timbers. The abrasive loading is wound spirally around the drum and held in position with spring loaded clips, both secure and easy to change. The height adjustment handle works in 0.1mm increments, giving very close control over both the finish and thickness of the timber.
Accessories available include a pair of extension tables for handling longer lengths of timber, an alternative rubber coated conveyor belt and a set of four lockable wheels.
Supplied with floor stand, 80 grit abrasive loading, 100 grit feed belt, box of loadings and loading insertion tool.

Great little machineI decided to buy this after seeing it used on you tube, it did seem an extravagance until I had a 300mm wide board, 2000mm long of beautiful figured walnut. The grain had ripped and was looking really daunting. It took 8 passes but the Jet took everything out. The board is flat with no ripped grain and looks stunning, at that point I was so glad I had bought it. I only use it to do the rough sanding then finish by hand and it does a fantastic job. As mentioned in a previous review you do need to take small cuts but the result is worth it

Jet 16-32 PlusGreat machine for my seldom use of thicknessing woods for guitar making, reliable, although installing belts is a tedious task, the more you do it the better you will be, but thats the same as anything I suppose :-}

Excellent - but respect its limitationsThis is a great little machine - and when you take the included leg stand into account it's really not that much more expensive than its smaller sibling and therefore much better value. I bought mine a few months ago and was very impressed with it on first use. To get to that point, though, I had to set it up at first and found the instructions not as clear as they could be. When assembling the stand, the legs go outside the rails. Put them inside and all will go well until you've almost finished and the last few holes won't line up!

Excellent piece of kitI think Jet may have changed the design and the comments from previous reviewers about setting up every time (methinks lack of understanding how to actually do this may have played a part for one reviewer) and 'shimming' not relevant. To set up the drum to ensure equal dimensioning from side to side on a workpiece, you now loosen four bolts and use a small hand-wheel. This can be done with good accuracy. Then re-tighten the four bolts and ready to go. The drum should stay in adjustment if you also follow the correct procedure for setting sanding depth and not putting undue strain on the drum. It is for minor dimensioning and finish sanding, not a substitute for a thicknesser.

Jet 16-32 Plus Drum SanderA true 'David amongst Goliaths'. One part of me is reluctant to praise this machine for the simple reason that if you are on to a good thing do you then tell the world about it? Well I guess I always have done. This mini drum sander is one of my priority machines and provided you are patient and take light cuts (the cantilever arm can only take so much) and refrain from the temptation to use the machine as a thicknesser, it is very versatlie and a boon not least for sanding awkward grain (variations in density of wood fibres) that orbital sanders struggle to achieve perfect flatness. Needs careful shimming to set up perfectly parallel. Essential to attach efficient dust extraction. Jeremy Broun (furniture and film maker).
