In Detail

With a powerful Input 200W motor the AFS-1000 B is intended for the bigger more commercial workshop; it needs a secure mounting capable of holding a 40kg static load, at least 2 metres off the ground. The air passes through the electrostatic pre-filter into the main pleated filter, filtering 98% of all particles 5 microns in size and 85% of all particles 1 micron in size. The remote control unit has three settings for the motor speed and three different time settings of 2 hours, 4 hours and 8 hours, which can be used to clear the workshop after work has finished for the day. An optional charcoal filter is available, which will neutralise odours and harmful organic fumes or particles including pollen. A handy ceiling mounting kit consisting of 4 lengths of flexible stainless steel wire with screw eyes and bolt up crimps allows the machine to be positioned out of the way. Supplied with electrostatic pre-filter, main filter and 4 mounting eyes.

Look inside the filter before first use...

When I first got this air filter I turned it on and thought it was very noisy, too noisy to work in the same room. It was a shame, but it worked well, so I just put up with it.

After a few days I was curious as to what was actually inside the box, as I hadn't bothered to look when I first got it, so I took the front filter out, and behind it is an elaborate pleated bag type thing, so I took that out and found...

about six massive blocks of polystyrene jammed in around the motor to keep it secure during tansit.

I pulled the blocks out and the machine all of a sudden became much much quieter.

I think the polystyrene blocks were creating noise in two ways, one, they were blocking the air flow and creating a turbulent air noise, and two, they were preventing the fan motor from being isolated by its isolation mounts. The blocks were transferring all the motor vibration to the case.

The moral of the story is, remove those blocks before judging how loud the thing is.

Other than that, all good.

It has been hanging on my workshop ceiling for 6 years now and still going strong. Must admit it only runs 10% of the time, when I do some very dusty stuff. It should run all of the time, I know I know;) When filter gets full I take it outside and blow it off with the compressor. Can do that for at least 20-30 times. Quality will surely go slightly down, but still better than no filter. Remote is great. Don't mind the noise as I wear headphones all day longanyway, so that's no issue. Very satisfied. In my new workshop I will surely mount a second one:)

Great Air Filter

First, I'd like to mention Axminster's customers service. I had this unit a month before I unboxed it. I know that may sound weird, but I've been refurbishing my workshop and it was the last thing to set up. Unfortunately the unit was damaged like it had been dropped during delivery; the quite flimsy steel box was crumpled in two places and the internal drum was misaligned. The packaging in the box was pretty useless to be honest. A phone call to Axminster and the unit was picked up and replaced without any problems.
I've only had the unit a week now but it works well; the remote works anywhere in the shop, low speed is reasonably quiet while top speed circulates the air nicely around my large workshop. I'm hoping the electrical problems that others have mentioned have been sorted because I'm happy with the unit and hope it will give me many years of service. No fear with Axminster's service though - we can always count on that....

Bought this machine about a month ago, why I didn't have one earlier god knows, been running it for about 4 hours a day and looked at pre filter couldn't believe how much dust it had picked up, don't hesitate to buy one of these your lungs will love you for it and I don't cough anywhere near as much as I did before. A little bit noisy but I can live with that. All round a brilliant piece of kit good addition to any workshop.

Unit is over 3 years old but only has about 7 hours total use. It goes on when I turn it on but only stays on about 2 minutes. Called JET and some person in service tells me to test the circuit board and direct wire the motor. Hey, I'm no electrician. There ought to be some place semi local to me that can fix this thing. From some of the other problems i've read about these units, they must be made in Taiwan (translation: JUNK).
