This is a medium to large workshop filter unit which has the advantage that it can be positioned anywhere in the workshop, either on a bench, a shelf or suspended from the ceiling. The unit is easy to operate and has three speeds simply activated by the push of a button or by using the convenient remote control. It should be mounted away from ventilation and heating vents and is only suitable for non-metallic dust particles. The unit can be positioned either vertically or horizontally to best utilise the space available. It is fitted with a pleated cloth main filter and an electrostatically charged pre-filter. An optional charcoal filter is available which can (a) neutralise odours and harmful organic fumes and (b) refresh the air by removing smoke, dust, bacteria, pollen and other harmful microscopic particles. Supplied with main filter, electrostatically charged pre-filter and remote control. For best results leave the AFS-500 running for a few minutes to clean the air after your machines have been switched off, or use the built in 2,4 or 8 hour timer options to run the filter after you leave the workshop.

Great when it workedLike others on here, have used this filter for appropriately 3 years when it ceased to function due to an obvious electronic defect. Having spoken to the technical department at Axminster I was offered an unhelpful verbal shrug and an extortionate price for a replacement PCB to cure a known defect. I have elected to go elsewhere for a replacement air filter and my other wood turning requirements.

Great when it workedGreat when it worked. Stopped working after 3 years. A simple machine like this should run without problem for alot longer. Same problem that stopped mine working happened to a friend's one.

Good for your healthThis shop add-on is very good for your health, for now(a month of heavy use, 10h a day) the machine works flawlessly without any kind of problem. I've read of possible faulty capacitors in control board, so I've already bought spare and more durable capacitors... just in case (but I think that can be related to a poor and old electrical line in some country).

Great...until it wasn't!This machine worked faultlessly for three years...but then the electronics packed in and the cost of replacement parts is more than the cost of a new machine! My verdict would be its not really up to the job in an commercial/trade environment.

5*Had one of these for years filters last for ages and clear lots of muck from my workshop atmosphere. We run a saw and tool sharpening business and this extractor has made a big difference to noses full of black grinding dust. Apparently not designed for fine particles but this machine seems to clear a lot of it up if not all. Well worth the money.
