In Detail

A compact and well engineered pillar drill for the home workshop. One of the most notable features is the extension wings fitted to the cast iron machine table, these give extra support to longer workpieces, especially when drilling near an edge. The maximum drilling capacity in steel is 13mm, impressive for this size of machine. It is powered by a quiet input 350W induction motor. Making life that little bit easier on the eye is a 12V halogen lamp. The depth gauge is micro adjustable, ensuring accuracy. N.B. Morticing attachments will not fit this machine.

Jet JDP-8

I've had this about a year and found it very useful but it's noisy, there is a lot of play in the chuck/quill when extended and i'm disappointed with the quality. I would have sent it back (for a replacement) if I'd realised I didn't have to pay for the postage.

Pay what you get for!

Gambled that £100 would buy a little better quality than a normal Chinese made drill. Frankly, it's no different, high runout at the chuck(.006") and drasticly loose quill(.010") when extended. Much noisier than a cheap NU tool version. Still not bad, does the job, but just looks more flash.

What you expect for £100...

not sure about the other reviews, here's my view

this drill is rated 'craft/hobby' - it is very light weight - it's cheaply built (as per £100 price tag) with lots of weak plastic parts, and some fairly nasty metalwork

I'd bought the Jet mini lathe with is very well made, and I expected same from Jet drill

for £100 it's not worth sending back - just wish I'd spent more for something more substantial as it's now the weak link in my new wood shop :-(

JET 30P Pillar drill

Well made and quality built very quiet and it looks good too. Used in a Light fabrication and it performs very well up to spec.
I have no hesitation in recommending this machine.
