Description

In Detail

This heavy duty disc sander will be an asset in any woodworking shop. It has a quiet running, continuously rated Input 750W induction motor, a 300mm diameter cast iron disc with velcro-style disc attachment and an impressively thick cast iron working table. There is a built-in brake which brings the machine to a stop in seconds. The table, which has T slots for the mitre guide and the circle sanding pivot point, can be tilted over a range of -15° to +45°, with preset stops at 90° and 45°. One of the most notable features of this sander is the fan-assisted dust extraction, unusual in a machine of this type. The flow of air generated from the back of the disc ensures that as much of the fine dust as possible is delivered to the extraction port. The port can be connected either to a fine dust extractor or, alternatively, to the optional canister filter.

Does the job, very well.

I've been a trained violin maker for 20 years and I appreciate quality tools. This machine fits a small workshop very well and is made to last. It's very solid and has less 'features' than the Axminster one which has a pivoting motor, and yes I read the in depth review of that machine so I think this Jet machine is really simple to use and really I can't fault it. The table adjustment knobs on this Jet are chunky aluminium, they're plastic Bristols on the Axminster one. The finer grit discs (180 Hermes) leave a v. good finish, the velcro system is good and stiff enough to made sanding a proper square face possible. I use it for finishing heels f/b ends end blocks, etc.....it's really versatile.
If I had the cash I'd have gone for the massive floor standing one.....but really this 12'' model is fine. The fan assisted dust extraction blows like a storm off the atlantic, which is great but shame it didn't come with an adaptor for connecting to a smaller dust extractor though, so I'll need to get one or make one, no biggie. The cast iron table surface is superb and it's manufactured in Switzerland. :-)
Buy it.
(I also use the Jet oscillating bobbin sander, which is as superb piece of kit)
Buy em both.

You could even do Cello soundpost ends with the tilting table....it's really versatile.

Strictly speaking you should only use a quarter of that 12'' disc, and you can mount it vertically like the smaller Proxon one.

The cast iron table surface is superb, although the rest of the casting is a tad rough,
perhaps because it's not made in Switzerland....but what is these days.
Buy it.

good quality, price is high but will last longer than me.

I make a lot of wooden toys, so the finish is what it is all about, this sander gets me the finish I have been working so hard to get but in a lot less time. The disc change is so easy, the table adjusts easy and locks solid when in use, the price was high but I would not be with out it now.
From light work with a fine disc to heavier work with a course disc this machine can cope, the built in dust extraction fan take the dust away from you and the work.
