You don’t have to choose between buying a surface planer or a thicknesser – with the JPT260, you can have both. JET have designed a machine that allows quick, one handed changeover between surfacing and thicknessing functions. This versatile machine features an extra large aluminum extruded fence with centered controls for quick adjustments, a built-in dust chute capable of handling both planing and jointing operations, and a powerful 1.7kW induction motor that can handle the toughest timbers. A heavy-duty, fully welded steel base cabinet houses the motor and the thicknessing table mechanism, while providing solid mounting for the associated controls and support for the surfacing tables and fence assemblies. Best of all, the fence can stay put when changing over functions. The surfacing tables are cast iron, 1,120mm long and precision planed to ensure the most accurate results. Quick adjustment of the infeed table is made possible by using an eccentric rod support. If wished the thicknessing feed rollers can be switched off. The three HSS blade cutter block results in a superior finish every time.

Great machineI've only had this machine a short while, but I've used it a lot already. It was easy to set up, and I am very impressed with it. The knives were already well adjusted in the cutter block, and the in-feed and out-feed tables were coplanar. The cast iron table is very robust, and the fence is enormous. I particularly like the ease of converting to thicknessing - nothing has to be removed, so the whole table top just lifts up, thereby minimising the chances of misalignment. Dust extraction (with a suitable system) is excellent, and very few chips fly around. The thicknesser table is lifted by a robust mechanism, and can be locked in place. I find the adjustment gauge is perfectly adequate for my purposes, so I don't think I'll bother with an upgrade. The whole fence (which is enormous) can be moved easily to accommodate different widths and to spread wear across the knives, but it does require checking for squareness regularly. It's a heavy machine, and realistically cannot be easily moved around the workshop. I would recommend adjustable feet to keep it stable. The cutter guard is brilliant. It does need a 16 amp socket, and just watch your knuckles on the odd sharp corner of the milled components. I've owned cheaper planer thicknessers, and they were not a patch on this Jet machine. I'm definitely pleased that I spent the money and got this model.

Recommended Buy...Not a cheap purchase, but as with all things you get what you pay for, buy cheap then you buy twice.

Good for the price.I have been using this for about two months now and it is a good quality machine for the price. The machine required some setup on delivery on the infeed table, as it wasn't coplanar with the outfeed and lower on one side than the other. Fortunately, adjustment took about 30 mins but is not covered in the manual.

Great, but...This planer is great for its size, and capacity. It has handled almost everything we have thrown at it, and with sharp blades chews through timber, leaving an excellent finish.

Great machineHad my machine for a few weeks now and very pleased with it. Was easy to set up from packaging and did not need knives adjusting. A previous reviewer mentioned coarse milling of the thicknesser table but mine was fine. However, the planer tables do have very shallow milling lines longitudinally. These do not affect performance. The digital thickness display (600672) is great and very good value.
