very good

i am v. pleased with this saw - used extensively for various wood types

the thumb lever to release the guard is not good though - mine broke off and so the saw is slightly unsafe but anyway

also would say very good value for money and definitely ploughs through whatever you chuck at it.

rubbish out the box .mod this saw makes it good

Bought this saw 2 weeks ago and here is my opinion on this jet slide mitre saw
1.packed very well
2.easy to use
3.the saw runs smooth enough .when doing a big cross cut the wheel on the blade guard catches the work can be a pain although doesn't upset your work once you know this. The laser is very good and was bang on but don't expect to use it for pin perfect cuts.
4.The blade that comes with it is only good for rough cuts and if you want fine cuts upgrade the blade which I have done .ie 60 tooth neg pitch blade works great .
5.the Insert throat plate is totally crap bin it .I made a zero clearance one and know combined with the new blade gives a beautiful cross cut .
6.the adjustment is not perfect for angle cuts but with some fine tuning it works well so don't expect perfect from this saw for the price .
7.make a fence guide which I did and expect no tear off which is good
8. Fantastic customer service as expected from axminster.
All in all not great unless you mod this saw which makes it pretty dam good and for the money it's worth it ...

acceptable for a hobbyist

The saw is of acceptable quality. It feels cheap (and actually smells cheap too. I hate when my new tools smell like dirt cheap plastic/rubber) but works as expected. It is the same as the axminster brand saw, but with a lower grade blade. There is no wobble in the linear bearings, the laser is well set and is actually helpful for setting the work-peace. There is a problem with the guard lock. There's a thumb lever that you have to push to release the guard and lower the saw, and that thingy has a small spring that cant push the knob back into its place, so it's always in "released" position. Also during shipping the blade guard was probably hitting the plastic base just at the tip at the front, so part of it was chipped away when i first opened the box. That doesn't affect the performance so i didn't bother to return/replace. The blade cuts well in softwood but the cut quality is pretty low, so i'm getting it replaced for a 80t one to work on hard woods. the bottom line - you get what you pay for - acceptable quality Chinese made machine. You need to make some adjustemnts and check on them from time to time, but it is accurate for a mitre saw. put aside some ££ for a new blade and add it to the setup when comparing prices.

affordable and it works

When it comes to tools and machinery the rule is buy the best you can afford so at the time my budget only stretched to this machine which made me a little apprehensive. What swung it was the make "jet" and the cross cut capacity of 305mm but actually reaches to 328mm which is great. Not accurate out of the box once set up which is easily done it works well. Made some modifications to the work clamp to stop it moving about. On the whole for the price works very nicely with plenty of power will upgrade the blade soon for a finer finish.

ok at best

Whilst I appreciate I shouldn't have expected perfection from an scms at this price point I had expected better. I can't fault its power, as another review says, it happily powers through everything I throw at it and its reach is good. Where its faults lie for me is its adjustability. I can only barely get mine to reach 90 in either axis and it doesn't seem to keep its setttigs ffor long, I end up rechecking it multiple times, even during the shortest job.
