In Detail

The Jet 3520B lathe is equipped with precision ground bedways and the headstock and tailstock are 13mm thick cast iron with positive cam action locking devices. The heavy duty cast iron headstock is designed to travel up and down the entire length of the bed of the lathe, which allows the turning of very large diameter work at the tailstock end of the lathe. The safety spindle lock makes it easy to remove faceplates and chucks and built in indexing, offers 36 positions (10°) on the spindle. The 2-step, 10 groove Poly-V belt transmits full power from the motor to the spindle at all speeds while providing extra long belt life and ultra smooth running. A forward and reverse switch is a useful feature, especially when sanding timbers with interlocking grain and the ergonomic handles allow easy lifting of the motor for fast speed range changes. Two ratios are available enabling high torque at low rpm and with electronic speed control via an inverter; you can fine tune the speed of the lathe to suit the work in hand by the turn of a knob. The magnetic remote ON/OFF switch can be positioned anywhere along the lathe bed and comparator centres for copy work are a very useful feature. The 460mm bed extension is available as an optional extra and can be attached in two positions, the lower position giving a massive 490mm(19.1/4") centre height above the extension. If you want to buy a great lathe that will not need upgrading at a later date, then this lathe is a sound investment.

N.B. The distance between centres will vary and be dependent on the type of centres or accessories used.

it's a winner!

Got this lathe on the recommendation of Nick Agar and I'm certainly delighted with it!
It's a beautifully smooth and quiet machine, absolutely rock solid in use!
details: great swing over the bed, useful compartment in the tail-stock, ample travel in the tailstock. Good banjo locking action. Can be easily retrofitted with the vacuum chuck adaptor for the 2442 (bought as a spare part) thereby upgrading the lathe for £40 or so. Plenty of power (2HP is plenty unless you plan on turning 6ft vases!). Any upgrades/alterations can be found on the "mustard monster" website for free.
(very) small niggles: The swing away for the tailstock (available in the US) would be useful for Axminster to keep in stock (the tailstock is a hefty lump! Yes alternatives can be home built from details on the "mustard monster" website, but it would be easier to buy! Also it would be nice to have the indexing plate from the 2442 on the 3520 as standard (10 indexing points as standard on a lathe of this quality is not enough!)
To sum up:
This is a Fantastic, stable, smooth, and quiet machine that will change the way you turn wood (my production rate has gone through the roof!).
You simply will not find a lathe of comparable quality for a similar price to this (if I could I would have given it a 10 star rating out of 5 for value!)
It has a loyal International fan-base for a reason - Its a fantastic product!

Jet 3520B

This model of Jet Machinery is brilliant, I have had this machine for over a year. I was recommended by Nick Agar to get this machine and I don't regret it at all. I brought this machine due to my Awards with The Worshipful Company of Turners. I have been able to create beautiful pieces of work and even big pieces. Just to warn people they aren't joking about the weight, if you order this, make sure you have help. I brought this machine with one extension bed so that I could do my long commission pieces. I have had no issues with the machine and it's great that Axminster designed a new chuck which goes with this. This machine is great for any sort of project and also helpful for teaching as well. I highly recommend this model to others, who are looking to buy a new lathe.

JET 3520B Lathe.

I have had the jet 3520 B – Lathe for just over a year now, I have used the machine on many occasions, turning many different projects it is a stunning machine, a very capable machine, and a machine you're never need to replace, I have turned large bowls, large vases and down to tiny little finials for Christmas tree decorations. I purchased my jet 3520 B lathe from Axminster Tools in Axminster. When purchasing my new lathe I needed advice as this was a big step up for me, I turned to the stores manager Craig who in my eyes after speaking to him on many occasions now is an Oracle in this industry! the man really does know what he's talking about!! And he and his staff were very very welcoming. To sum this machine up. It has achieved everything I have chucked at it from large Bannister posts down to tiny little finials, it truly is one machine for a lifetime five stars all the way. A very happy customer!!

Jet 3520B

well I`ve had my Jet 3520B for 18 months now and have turned an array of different things, from a winged bowl 27" across ,to representations of fountains in wood down to micro goblets 8 mm tall and 5 mm across with a captive ring.I`ve made a few big bowls 13-14 ins across, acake tray 14" wide,a 3 tiered cake stand with threaded pillars the cake stand sections 13",9 1/2",and 7 1/2" across and around an 1/8" thick with hollow tubular sort of edges, the lathe just gets on with everything I throw at it without any problem, and again the variable speed is wonderful and precise if a big hunk of wood starts shaking the lathe about, bearing in mind it weighs 326 kilos (717.2 pounds),plus about a 50 kilos (110lbs) of wood on a home built shelf, then you just turn the speed down,or if its safely attached(and depending on whats being turned) turn it up till the shaking stops,I still keep marveling at how good it is.

THe Best Money Can Buy

I now have had the Jet 3520B for over 6 months and all I can say is WOW !!! what a machine and coupled with the back-up from Axminster I have never had better. Have turned for 38” Bowl to a small ½” toadstool and everything was exactly as stated on the tin. The stability and accuracy of the machine is asstounding even with very large logs. If you want an all-round lathe of the highest quality and performance there is none better than the Jet 3520b from Axminster.
