Made in Germany by the Wilhelm Schmitt Company, the blade of this chisel is hardened and tempered over the full length and is fitted with a tough hornbeam handle that is octagonal in shape which is not only comfortable in the hand but also prevents the tool from rolling off the bench. The sweep shown opposite is for illustration purposes only (not to scale) showing the impression that would be made by the tool's edge.

Kirschen V toolsBought two of these carving tools the 1/8" Vee and the 1/4" bent Vee, these were the first carving chisels I have bought in over 30years and I must say I was very impressed with the quality of the tools. They came well packed although I could say over packed and they arrived promptly the next day after purchace. They arrived extremely sharp and required very little work with a strop to bring them up to carving standards. Used them on a little letter carving I had to complete on a memorial plaque made from Japanese Oak and they coped with that timber with no sign of edge deteriation during the process. So impressed that I have order two more chisels of the No. 6 sweep, one of the sweeps which I do not have within my carving tools.
