In Detail

Designed for the cabinet maker, rather than the timber framer, these well balanced mortice chisels are ground with parallel sides and are taller than they are wide to help keep them straight in the cut. The Lie-Nielsen Mortice Chisels have handles made from tough durable Hornbeam. The blades are cryogenically treated and hardened to Rockwell 60-62. The set of five is supplied complete with a tool roll.

Beautifully made

Amazingly finished chisels which are a delight to look at, hold and use. Every surface of the blade and socket is super fine ground and the socket is stamped with the makers name. The handle of Hornbeam has a lovely ripple grain on this first purchase - more to follow - and catches the light in a nice, attractive way. It's finish is exemplary.

Easy to apply a secondary bevel, the accurately ground primary makes this a joy to do and there is little else to do as the back needs only a quick polish. They are small, light and very different to the run of the mill offerings from so many other manufacturers. Not for timber framers but perfect for accurate cabinet standard chopping.

And the most important bit! It's a brilliant chisel for cutting out mortises
