Poor saw

I'm a big makita fan but I was not impressed with this saw the blade didn't cut parallel to the fence. when jointing the fence there was a 4mm belly in the straight line not something I'd expect from a precision saw. Buy a festool worth the money

Great so far

Great saw, as accurate as you are.
Takes more time to set up the cut than a table saw but you get to keep your digits if your mind wanders...
I love it, if you cut ply or MDF you can get zero tearout every time. Just make sure your piece is well supported and it'll do the job time after time. If you would prefer the bag not the bevel other suppliers are available

Never quiet right

Out of the box it looked and felt like a great bit of kit, and the build quality was very good as you'd expect from makita. Unfortunately it didn't live up to expectations in use. It burned the timber every time and the motor struggled even in just sheet material. I eventually found out the blade wasn't running parallel with the fence and adjusted it. I still couldn't get it to 100 percent. As a twist of fate the saw was robbed and I got the festool instead. It is by far a better saw and was worth the extra money. Maybe I got a bad one, maybe I didn't. Love makita, most of my tools are makita but this saw never impressed.

Excellent

I've used Festool and Dewalt plunge saws in the past. I didnt like the action of the Dewalt and like most people was unsure about spending the extra money for a festool and premium prices for accessories etc. The Festool is undoubtably a superb saw but it's the same as any saw in as much as it is only as good as the blade that is in it! (or the user!) The Makita rail is compatible with Festool so its fair to assume the accuracy is the same. This makita kit is also excellent value for money. Its always handy to have an extra rail for longer cuts and the rail connector does a good job holding the two together. Theres a bit of adjustment so you can align the rails to allow the saw run smoothly over the track join. The bevel guide is a handy piece of kit aswell and of good quality. Theres a couple of features i like on the saw, i use the undercut facility a lot to get a crisp joint and also the 2mm scribing cut feature as i do a lot of veneer work. Its also lighter than a ts55 and the depth guage takes into account rail thickness. You can also get a full range of add on's for the rail. All in all its a really nice looking, lightweight piece of kit which functions incredibly well.

Good saw depending on accuracy

Run an oak framing business and bought this after using a friends Bosch track saw..

This saw is always being used for a huge variety of work and is very versatile. It's rare it's available to use in our workshop which normally speaks for itself.
We use it for making tenons, ply, cladding and pretty much everything else. It's worth buying a smaller track for some jobs like cladding. Makita runs on the same track as festool. the Bosch and Maffel run on a different track which is probably more accurate and fouls the rubber splinter guard less than the makita which tends to happen as the blade wares. You can get new ones but we do use quite a lot. Also the unlike the Bosch the makita saw can be adjusted to run on the guide rail which can also alter the cut and can result in less accurate cuts over time. The makita is a lot easier to load onto the track for cladding an the track is wider which means its easier to pin without clamps for work like cladding.

The plunge has gone stiff after a year but its had lots of new blades and is otherwise good as new. If you need serious accuracy buy the Bosch or mafell but if you need to get on and do lots of quick work buy this saw. Made in the uk too!
