Shank sizeI have just purchased a 10 mm tap and I was disappointed. The shank size on this tap was 9.95 mm diameter which meant that the maximum depth that could be taped was 30 mm. As an engineer all the taps I have ever used in over sixty years the shank has always been less than the core size of the thread. In the case of a 10 mm tap this would be less than 8.5 mm diameter. This would allow the user to tap right though an item by removing the tap from the exit side.
