In Detail

Mirka 3 Year Warranty

The DEROS has to be the most compact random orbit sander on the market today. It is supplied with both 125mm and 150mm pads that can be simply swapped over. The body of the machine houses a unique brushless motor with motor control technology. With its small body and low weight of just 1kg, it is perfect for all prolonged use in almost any position - flat, overhead or vertical.

The control and smoothness is excellent with the motor giving constant speed even under load; it is fitted with soft start and electronic brake. You can switch the machine on, then control speed with the variable lever on top of the machine. Speed range covers 4,000 - 10,000rpm and the 350W high performance brushless motor is comparable to a standard 500W motor. The DEROS also features a closed construction so that no dust can enter the machine causing wear. The power cord is exchangeable.

Mirka Abranet® is recommended for use with the machine to produce a flawless finish for a huge range of sanding applications. The 125mm and 150mm backing pads can be exchanged quickly to suit your application; both pads have a universal hole pattern to enable the fitting of many different makes and types of abrasive disc.

Supplied with 125mm and 150mm pads, 5 x 125mm and 5 x 150mm Abranet® discs mixed grits, pad savers and stacking storage case

2+1 Extended Warranty on Mirka sanders, registration required within 30 days.

Light weight sander which when working a joy to use, it was purchased in the belief it would be able to deliver reliable use when needed

For the price you expect reliability, having owned one for just under 12 months we have been back to Axminster twice it is not although it is not part of the kit we use daily or even weekly but we need the confidence it will do the job when required.

Two issues paddle start became intermittant and the on/off switch has failed.

When working it does the job producing superier results. Axminster have provided excellent support but this does not remove the hassle and cost to the business of returning and losing a piece of kit when needed.

Stunning tool

Is the cost of this plus the cost of the hose (at the time of writing a total of 420 quid) worth it for a sander?
Yes. Easily yes.
Before I brought this I hated using Random Orbital Sanders with this tool I am a convert. Light, low vibration and giving a great finish I am very pleased with the results the sander gives. Especially when combined with Mirkas 'net' sanding discs. When attached to a fine dust extractor with the hose the dust level is almost zero, there is certainly very little visible dust (still wear a mask though). My only small niggle is the detachable power cord attached with a 'kettle plug' type connector, this does I am sure add to the weight - though as I say it is very light, more annoyingly it has the habit of being pulled out. Mind you I suppose at least the prevents the cable/grommet getting damaged.

wow what a tool

I use a sander a lot . I have 3 Makita random orbit sanders currently in use in the workshop 125 and 150 mm . They mainly sand wood and mdf kitchen doors paint and primer , so 120 grit to 400 grit .
I spend many hours at the bench sanding door edges with my little Makita which was becoming a real chore and a task I was really beginning to hate .
No other sander even came close to the Makitas until this Deros literally changed my world .
First of all no numb hands due to vibration , no tired arm and wrist from holding a heavy awkward sander on its side sanding rounded door and panel edges . Much less noise , I no longer need to wear ear defenders .Virtually no dust , same extractor same abrasive , but the mirka just extracts the dust with near perfection , hence less cleaning down before painting . and most of all much less dust in the air . In fact on flat surfaces the extraction is near 100%
My biggest worry and reason I didn't buy one sooner was the 5 mm orbit , as most random orbits use 2.5 mm but the deros actually gives a finer finish while getting the job done quicker It seems much faster using 120 grit to smooth joint lines etc plus still gives a better finish , especially on the rounded edges .
I was concerned I would take the primer off the edges when using 400 grit on slower speed , something that's already a problem with my old sander if iam not careful . However using the pad saver softens the pad and combined with the much easier handling of the deros the result is noticeable better and more even than before . I have so much more control of my sanding . I feel I could even allow a semi skilled person do the job its that much easier to use
Power wise this deros just doesn't slow down even on the lower speeds , the pad doesn't spin up and mar the work if you lift it off for a moment . In contast other sanders need setting to a higher speed when used slowly to allow enough power to keep the pad moving , hence the spin up as you lift off can be a problem

Ok deros is not cheap and only a professional is likely to lay out this much money on a sander , however its doing the same job as 2 makitas that would have cost about £300 to replace . we will see how long it lasts , the 3 year guarantee sounds good , considering I can wear out a small de walt random orbit in 12 months , a metabo duo lasted 18 months and the makitas still good after 3 years
All in its all worth every penny for me sanding has now become a pleasure rather than a chore , and the results are faster work and better finish and most of all better for my health with less dust and no wrist and hand problems .
