Description

In Detail

This attachment offers a simple and convenient way of converting a pillar drill into a lightweight morticing machine, provided that the collar diameter (the part where the chuck guard normally fits) is either 65mm, 60mm or 55mm. Best mounted on to an MDF base plate (not supplied), the attachment works well once the mortice bits have been cut down to a length to suit the pillar drill being used. When installing the chisel and bit together, ensure that there is a minimum of 1.5mm of clearance between the bit and the chisel and that the bit is securely tightened to avoid damage to the chisel. The attachment has a 65mm mounting diameter and is supplied with an adaptor which allows for fitting to 60 or 55mm diameter collars. Takes 3/4" shank chisel and bits (not included).

Precision Engineering It's Not!

Bought, this despite the reviews, to assist with making split barn doors. I do agree that it is not as well made as it could be. I had to have the attachment rebored/milled to accept the morticing chisels as it was undersized quite considerably and also off centre. Fence and clamping system did not fit my pillar drill table and was forced to use alternative means. Despite the poor quality etc if, as said before, you only require to undertake a few mortices now and then, and you can manage with the slightly coarse finish, then this is good VFM. Do not buy this if you need something for making fine furniture!

Works but oh!

Quality very poor, casting had to be reamed out to except the 3/4" Mortise Chisel shanks. The supplied plastic mortise fence was so
distorted that it rendered it totally useless. The two holding bars are very ineffective. The rode securing the hold down assemble would have been nice to have a flat on it, as it does work loose after a time. I broke my golden purchase rule "Don't buy cheap"
Saying all that it did work after making a new fence and securing the work piece differently.
