Description

In Detail

Based on the classic Nobex quattro folding squares, the Octo square has been redesigned for marking 8 angles instead of 4. The Octo still has the same accurate design and now stops at 157.5°, 135°, 112°, 90°, 67.5°, 45° & 22.5° with those famous heavily tested bearings. The price is virtually unchanged so you are getting twice the tool for the money!

Unreliable

The older version with bearings that located the angles was much better, this version has rubbish plastic bumps that locate the angle which soon ware making it unusable

Very handy, but not perfect.

I bought one about 10 years ago. It has served me well and takes little room in my toolbox. But after years of use it is no longer accurate and a new one will be bought.
Also the scale was screenprinted and not etched, so it soon wore off. I contacted Nobex about that and they claimed they were looking for another etching company, and had used a screenprinter temporarily. Also gave the lame excuse that they thought most professionals would not use the scale anyway.

Handy but not perfect.

I have a 10 year old one with four stops. It has finally been worn out and is no longer reliable for exact angles.
It is very handy to be able to fold it up and set it at different angles. The scales on mine were silk screen printed and wore off. I contacted Nobex about that years ago, and they said it was just until they found a new supplier that could etch it. They also did not think professionals used the scale much so that it was not that important.
I will buy another. Preferably in a store where I can test that it is accurate before I buy.

Useful but not accurate

A very useful square but the one delivered to me is simply not accurate at 90 degrees. Still useable but only just and certainly not as accurate as the sales information claims.

Markings wear off

Build quality is excellent though the longer model is a bit wobbly when tracing a pen across it. The main gripe is that the lettering/markings wear off quickly. On both my Octo's the lettering has worn out in places. None of my other squares (Hultafors, Bahco) have had this problem, hence the low rating.
