Clifton 2 Piece Cap Iron
Made by Clico of Sheffield this has been designed to eliminate faults found with conventional single piece cap irons. Hinging the two pieces together means the cap iron can be made thicker thus reducing cutter chatter by more firmly clamping the cutter between the frog and lever cap. An accurately ground edge makes for a snug fit and prevents shavings being forced between blade and cap iron. The lower section is easily removed leaving the upper in position. The blade can then be honed without the loss of any previous setting. Fits most common bench planes.
