Set of 5 Special alloy steel laminated to softer steel base Withstands continual use on particle board and knotty timbers
Japanese Oire Nomi Special Alloy Chisel Set
These chisels, available only in a set of 5, are made from a special alloy steel, similar to high speed steel, laminated to a softer steel base. The harder material will better withstand continual use on particle board and knotty timbers. Sharpening procedure is the same as for other Japanese chisels. Sizes are 9, 15, 24, 30 and 36mm.
These are the best chisels I have ever used.
"I have have used stanley, C.K, Irwin, bahco and even kirschen chisels but none come even close to the sharpness and the feel of these Japanese chisels, Buying any other's would be a mistake. All chippies who have borrowed my chisels have been turned."

E Swanepoel
"Like their saws, swords and other edge impliments, it's a revalation !! Beats all my other chisels, incl LN, for balance(once you are used to it) and holding an edge like nothing I have seen or used. I highly recommend these chisels, impossible to be disappointed AND exceptional value at the Axminister price!!!! (bang for the buck)"

Simon Kirby has it wrong
"Mr Simon Kirby does not understand the theory of the bevelled back of these chisels. The bevelled back is in fact there to make it EASIER to hone the back face of the chisel flat and return to that razor sharp edge if the edge does become chipped. Rather than having to hone a large flat area on the back of the chisel, because the steel is so hard, the back of the chisel is hollowed out which means that there is less steel to be ground away to return it to a perfectly flat surface. These chisels are "state of the art". Just make sure you buy some Japanese water stones to go with them or they will be wasted!"

Not an everyday tool
"Lovely to handle, perfect balance and quality materials. However the bevelled back means that if your unfortunate enough to nick the blade or over zealous whilst sharpening you risk cutting into the bevelled area which means the chisel no longer cuts flat. Not really a tool for everyday use."
