Victor Forged Plane Blades
As an answer to all those cries of "they don't make plane irons like they used to", Clico of Sheffield have gone back in time and made a plane iron from scratch, "the way they used to". Specially selected high carbon steel is heated and hammered, and hammered and re-hammered to produce the required grain structure in the steel. The steel is then carefully hardened and tempered to produce the very best performing blade possible. In addition, the Victor blade is thicker than a standard blade, which greatly helps to reduce any tendency of chatter. It may be found necessary to open up the throat of the plane with a file to allow for this increased thickness and there is a longer cap screw available, if this should prove necessary. A truly marvelous coming together of traditional manufacturing in a modern world. Hardness 60-62Rc.
Superb iron
" First impressions of this blade are very good indeed. Essentially a clifton blade but not quite as thick although it is thicker than a Hock iron I have. Back ground flat and adequately sharpened. A polish and a hone and this blade cuts superbly. Good edge retention. Shall be getting another for my 4 1/2."

Well worth the investment
"I have used one of these in my No. 4 smoothing plane for several months now, and have only one complaint. The back of the blade as delivered was not finished as well as I had hoped for at the price. Half an hours work with a diamond lap and a fine stone took it to a mirror finish. You will also need to open up the throat of the plane slightly. The effort is worth it though, as the blade takes and holds a phenomenal edge, giving a glass smooth finish even on difficult timber."
