This twin drum sander is the heavyweight of the range and is intended for the busy professional workshop where usage is more frequent and more arduous. The construction of the machine is predominantly cast iron and heavy gauge steel sheet, the 150mm diameter rollers are precision machined from aluminium castings and the power is supplied by two motors, 3.75kW(415V) for the sanding drum drive and a 200W one for the conveyor belt drive. The two drums are loaded with different grades of abrasive, coarse on the front drum and fine on the rear and there is a choice of abrasives available to suit the type of timber being used and the finish required. The abrasive comes in 150mm wide strips and is wound spirally around the drums and secured with a system of clips and springs. The timber is held in contact with the conveyor belt by no fewer than five pressure rollers, one pair in front of the front sanding drum, one between the rollers and another pair behind the rear drum. This arrangement ensures that the work is held in close contact with the feed belt, giving safe operation and a uniform thickness to the finished work. A full width stop bar, mounted on the front of the machine can be reached from almost any position and enables the machine to be stopped quickly when required. The machine will handle timber thicknesses between 6mm and 100mm and the adjustment is via a handwheel conveniently situated on the top of the machine. Although there are penalties to be paid in cost, weight and power consumption this machine will rapidly repay its investment in a busy workshop where high volume throughput is the order of the day.
