Kitchens are a serious investment and frequently the worktop is a major part of that investment. Cutting them can be a traumatic experience which must not be left to 'near enough' - only high precision and perfect accuracy will do. You need total confidence in your equipment and in particular your postform jig.

The Axminster Extra Worktop Jig, produced on our own sophisticated CNC machinery, will give you supreme accuracy without compromise and ensure that each and every cut is performed to perfection, producing the imperceptible joint of the skilled professional - protecting your investment in expensive worktops and the assurance of a completed job for all to admire. Incorporating several unique features for secure location, precise positioning and sighting of the cut line, this is not a postform jig intended for the casual weekender. Rather more for the perfectionist with an eye for detail, requiring professional precision with every worktop intersection whatever the complexity of the angle.

The main body of the template is 16mm thick synthetic resin laminate plate, machined to very fine tolerances and of an optimum thickness and weight to guide your router with a standard 30mm guide bush. The guide slots and preset angles are located with 10mm metal dowel pins to ensure unequivocal positioning against the edge of your worktops and encompass the principal angles required, plus positioning for the new style connectors and various inserts.

Flush face clamping provides a totally unimpeded working face whilst enabling the template to be held securely to the worktop using any combination of the eight sliding locations for the recessed clamp heads.

Unique is the only word to describe the cut line finder. Consisting of a lens and reticule mounted in an aluminium block it will give you the precise offset to sight the exact position of your cutter edge against a given line when placed against the edge of the template or within the guide bush slot. You get two of these to make trouble-free alignment the order of the day.

Cutting errors are often handed down from an inaccurately located guide bush. To eliminate this we provide a locator for the standard 30mm guide bush to ensure its precise concentricity when mounting and securing it to the router.

To ensure error-free cutting of the location so that it accepts the end of the mating worktop we have incorporated a width measuring locator facility in this jig. Set between static dowel pins and a sliding pin, the width of the top can be gauged without measuring or guesswork, providing the exact amount cut in to accommodate the worktop end.

The template establishes the main jointing cuts for a faultless worktop using your 1/2" plunge router mounted with a standard 30mm guide bush and high quality 1/2" cutter of a suitable length. It is critical to the quality of the cut and therefore the fit of the joint that a new freshly ground cutter is used for each joint. Overworking a cutter is a false economy set against the price of the worktop and the accuracy required for that all important joint. The very abrasive nature of the material used in the manufacture of kitchen worktops makes huge demands of the cutter edge; despite the pre-eminence of tungsten to resist wear, the speed of a router and the abrasive nature of the material have a dramatic blunting effect on the cutter.
