Axminster AW30S Tilting Spindle Moulder
A fine trade rated machine with cast iron table, three speeds and a host of accessories to enhance its versatility. The main guard has an independently adjustable fence with adequate space to accommodate tooling up to 110mm in diameter. The three speeds 3,000, 6,250 & 9,000rpm allow for large diameter tooling such as panel raising blocks down to smaller items of tooling such as router cutters of 35mm or more that can be used with the addition of an optional 12.7mm collet. Adequately powered with a 2.2kW motor the machine will need to be cabled into a 20A supply, particularly important when used with heavy rebate blocks. The motor is braked for safety purposes, coming to a halt well within the allocated 10 seconds having a mechanical brake. To extend the standard range of tooling available the spindle can be tilted forward by 30° allowing mouldings and grooves to be machined at an angle if required. The tenoning and sliding tables further enhance the versatility of the machine, especially when machining end grain timbers or cutting tenons. The tenoning table fits on to the table top and is close to the spindle which is good for kitchen doors and small window section mouldings whilst the sliding table attaches to the front of the machine and is suited to heavier work such as tenons and panels. The additional purchase of the 12.7mm (1/2") collet is certainly very worthwhile if router cutters are to be used, but do not use cutters with a diameter of less than 35mm as they will cut badly and always use the top speed of 9000rpm. A power feed is easily attached to the table using the very clever quick fit base that clamps on to the corner of the table casting. The base carries a series of drilled and tapped holes to accommodate the power feed, removing the need to drill holes into your spindle moulder table. The addition of the 708118 wheeled base allows the machine to be easily moved around the workshop. A 20Amp Supply is recommended.
