Henry Taylor Skew Chisels
Always said to be the most difficult tool to master but, once mastered, the most versatile. Used for planing cuts, vee cuts, beads and any convex, cylindrical or conical forms and also for cleaning end grain. The oval skew, introduced in more recent times, gives extra control and more sensitivity but is not quite as stable for peeling cuts and, being lighter, slightly more prone to vibration. Rounded edge skews are a hybrid type and have rounded smooth edges which allow the tool to slide smoothly along the rest as with an oval skew but retaining the mass and stability of the traditional skew. The cutting edge of these tools has a slight radius.
