Liberon Pearl Glue

Arguably still the best glue you can buy for furniture and interior use. Essential for re-gluing or repairing old pieces of furniture as it is the only glue compatible with the original used and which will still be in the fibres and crevices however carefully you clean and scrape the old joint or break. It is used hot and chills quickly and therefore it is important that the atmosphere in which you work, and the surfaces that are to be joined, are as warm as possible, a hot air gun is very useful. To make the glue, estimate the amount you will need and pour the pearl beads into the inner container of your glue pot, top up with hot water so that it just covers the beads and allow to soak overnight. Fill the outer container with water, not too much or it will boil over, not too little or it will boil dry. Put the inner pot in place and heat the outer pot. The water in the outer pot can boil but the glue must not. It is ready to use as soon as it is all liquid with no lumps. You will find the optimum consistency in use and for the job in hand although ideally it should run freely in a continuous string from a raised brush without breaking up into small droplets. Add more hot water to thin or more pearls to thicken. A thin coat of glue will set almost immediately whereas a thick layer in a loose joint may take several hours. Surplus glue can be wiped away with a cloth soaked in hot water and well wrung out. Should you need to break the joint at a later date it can be heated or steamed apart. For veneering, coat veneer and groundwork with a thin coat of glue, lay veneer and iron with an ordinary domestic iron set to medium heat. Work out with a veneer hammer in the usual way, reheating with the iron as necessary. Thinned it can also be used in a hypodermic with or without needle for small repairs in difficult situations or veneer bubbles. Aptly named, this glue is a gem to work with!
