A switch on the rear of the unit selects the required function, and in the case of distance measuring a second switch selects metric or imperial read out. If metric is chosen the LCD screen will display to the nearest centimetre, if imperial to the nearest 0.1 feet, a table printed on the rear converts to inches. The range is 0.61m to 12m or 2' to 40'. When used to detect wires, pipes or studs the LCD displays a graduated series of bars, the detector is over the centre of the object when the level is highest. The unit will find studs to a depth of 18mm, and wires or pipes to 78mm. Requires a PP3 or equivalent 9V alkaline battery (not included - See Batteries for Meters & Instruments ).
