The rotary converter (so named because it incorporates its own three phase motor or rotor and transformer which establishes an artificial three phase supply) provides the user with almost complete freedom of operation with either single or multiple motors up to the maximum rating of the converter. The rotary converter, although somewhat more expensive than the static, is more flexible in its application and is the model to go for if more than one motor is being operated or the motor is subject to large load variations.
